Macy Gray – Cairns Performing Arts Centre, 3 October 2026

Macy Gray delivered a stunning night at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre, blending soul, jazz and her unmistakable voice into something that felt wonderfully intimate. At times, the atmosphere was reminiscent of a sophisticated 1930s jazz dinner show — relaxed, elegant and full of character.

The song choices were a highlight, moving between Gray’s own material and beautifully reimagined covers. A theatre-wide singalong to Radiohead’s “Creep” was unforgettable, while her soulful interpretation of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” offered a completely different perspective on a familiar classic.

By the second half, the audience had abandoned any sense of sitting quietly in their seats, with people dancing in the aisles and embracing the infectious energy coming from the stage.

It is also fantastic to see major US artists touring beyond Australia’s capital cities. This 27-date Australian tour brings international music to regional audiences, and Cairns was clearly ready for it.

A memorable night of exceptional vocals, great musicianship and an audience completely caught up in the moment.
